Will support bandh call given by private college managements over fee reimbursement dues, say students, faculty, ETEducation
Hyderabad: Both student and faculty organisations have extended their support to private college managements, who have called for a bandh from Nov 3 over pending fee reimbursement dues. The students and faculty organisations said they are particularly affected by the delay in releasing fee reimbursement dues, as colleges are unable to pay salaries and are withholding students’ certificates over these dues.
By the end of this academic year, the dues to colleges is expected to mount to Rs 10,000 crore, say faculty. The managements are asking the govt to immediately clear Rs 900 crore, failing which they would proceed with the bandh from Nov 3.
“We were not paid salaries for the last three months. How can we blame managements when they are also struggling because of the non-payment of fee dues? We have decided to fully support the bandh call given by managements and will also take part in the protest programmes,” said C Sandeep Reddy, a faculty member working in a private pharmacy college.
Student organisations demanded that the govt immediately clear Rs 1,200 crore in dues, which it had promised to pay college managements at the earliest.
“We will organise a state-wide bandh of engineering, medical, pharmacy, and other professional courses on Oct 30 over the dues. The state should immediately clear dues as it is the poor students who are suffering on account of being forced by college managements to clear the dues, despite being eligible for fee reimbursement,” said K Ashok Reddy, vice-president, Students’ Federation of India (SFI).
The managements are considering holding a march with students in large numbers and an open meeting with faculty in support of their cause. They are also meeting various political parties seeking their support.
