
‘Vasippu Iyakkam’ initiative launched at Madurai govt school, ETEducation
Madurai: ‘Vasippu Iyakkam‘, an initiative to improve the reading skills of students, was inaugurated at the Chatrapatti Govt Higher Secondary School in Madurai by school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, on Tuesday. He also inaugurated the upgradation of two govt schools.
Under the ‘Vasippu Iyakkam’ initiative, students were provided with related logistical materials.
“The state govt has announced a certain number of books to be made available at libraries of all schools. In the first phase, libraries in 6,700 schools across the state have been provided books. Similarly, 25 crore worth logistical materials have been provided to 7,000 schools. At Chatrapatti Govt HSS as well, books for the library have been supplied and materials worth 40,000 have been provided,” said Poyyamozhi.
He added that around four lakh students enrolled in govt schools this year and that the state govt prioritises school education and infrastructure upgrades for govt schools.
Poyyamozhi, along with state commercial taxes and registration minister P Moorthy, also inaugurated the upgradation of Chettikulam Govt High School to higher secondary school and Kodikulam Govt Middle School to high school.
“For the upgradation of the Chettikulam Govt High School to higher secondary, 70 crore worth of land was provided by villagers in the panchayat with around 50 villages nearby. The quality of education should also increase with upgradation,” said Moorthy.
