Transformers Sensory Story
This multi-sensory story is a high-energy, rhyming adventure set in the world of Transformers, designed with older SEN learners in mind (Basically, I’m just writing these for me now!). Perfect for SLD or adaptable for PMLD pupils, it combines rhythm, familiar characters, and rich sensory input. Whether you’re into Bumblebee’s bravery or the clash of Autobots and Decepticons, this story invites learners to feel the rumble, hear the engines, and transform the classroom into a sensory battle for Earth. As always, adapt for individual sensory profiles, and have some fun with it!

Transformers: Sensory Story
1.
In a scrapyard quiet, beneath the stars,
Slept rusty wheels and broken cars.
A flash of light, a sudden spark,
The metal stirred inside the dark.
(Shake foil sheet, dim lights, flash torch)
2.
One gear turned, then engines roared,
The Transformers were back, ready and restored!
Their eyes lit up with neon fire,
They stood up tall, sparks climbing higher.
(Switch on LED lights or torch under a mask)
3.
Bumblebee beeped and played his song,
Zoomed down a track, fast and strong.
His yellow paint was rough and worn,
But he was brave, and battle-born.
(Run fingers over sandpaper/yellow toy car, play car engine or music snippet)
4.
Optimus Prime gave a mighty call,
“Autobots, Roll Out — we must stand tall!”
The ground did shake, the sky turned red,
Decepticons were just ahead!
(Stomp feet or use vibration speaker, red lighting or red cloth wave)
5.
Bumblebee flipped and zoomed through the street,
Dodging debris with lightning-fast feet.
He blasted his tunes and spun with flair,
Danced past trouble with style to spare!
(Spin in place, shake maracas, play short dance music clip)
6.
Starscream swooped from the sky with a scream,
Jet engines roaring in a sonic dream.
The Autobots ducked, the ground shook again,
A flash, a boom, and sparks like rain!
(Fan breeze for jet, drop rice in tray, flash torch rapidly for sparks)
7.
Megatron growled, his voice was deep,
Metal grinding, gears did creep.
But teamwork won the final fight,
The Autobots stood for what was right.
(Use deep voice changer or metal chain sound, pair with high-five or clapping moment)
8.
Now Earth is safe, for one more day,
Thanks to the heroes who saved the way.
Engines quiet, lights now low,
The bots return to hide below.
(Turn off lights, wrap in blanket or foil like “resting” bots)

5 Transformers Themed Sensory Teaching Activities
1. Build-a-Bot Tray
🛠️ Hands-on tactile exploration and fine motor
Setup:
Create a tray of “robot parts” — gears, nuts, bolts (plastic), magnetic blocks, foil, cardboard tubes, Lego Technic pieces.
Task:
Let learners build their own bot using Velcro, magnets or glue. Encourage choice-making and imaginative naming!
Adaptation: For PMLD, present single “parts” for sensory exploration (weight, temperature, texture).

2. Autobot vs Decepticon Sound Sorting
🎧 Auditory discrimination and preference exploration
Setup:
Record or download different sounds:
- Optimus Prime’s voice
- Bumblebee’s beeps
- Megatron’s metallic growl
- Vehicle revs
- Sci-fi blaster sounds
Task:
Play sounds one by one. Ask learners to identify which team (or just if they like/don’t like it). Match sounds to symbols.
3. Transform and Move! – Movement Game
🏃 Gross motor and proprioceptive input
Setup:
Create movement prompts like:
- “Roll like a wheel”
- “Stomp like a bot”
- “Freeze like a statue”
- “Zoom like Bumblebee”
Task:
Use a spinner, AAC device, or symbol cards for learners to choose a movement. Model and co-move where needed.
PMLD Adaptation: Use hand-over-hand or gentle body rocking while saying the action aloud.
4. Energy Cube Discovery Bottles
🧪 Visual and calming sensory exploration
Setup:
Create “Energon Cubes” using small bottles or blocks filled with:
- Glitter water
- Blue/green gel
- Glow-in-the-dark stars
- Bubbles
Task:
Use in calm-down zones, or let learners explore them during quiet story parts. Add UV light for extra glow.

5. Foil Wrap Chill-Out Bots
🛡️ Tactile and emotional regulation
Setup:
Give each learner a soft object or figure wrapped in foil.
Task:
They unwrap it as a “bot” wakes up. Then re-wrap to help the bot “sleep.” Great for transitions or wind-down.
Extension: Learners choose which emotion the bot is feeling, and match it with a colour or sound.
