Students granted extension for prestigious school entrance exams, ETEducation
Ludhiana: Punjab’s education department has extended the registration deadline for entrance exams to the state’s elite School of Eminence (SOE) and Meritorious Schools, citing a surge in demand from students seeking admission for the 2026-27 academic year.
Originally set to expire on Jan. 20, the new deadline for Classes 9 and 11 registrations is now Jan. 25. The extension provides a critical window for thousands of students across government, aided, and private schools to finalize their applications for the entrance test, now officially scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Strategic advice for applicants
Ludhiana’s sole Meritorious School offers a highly competitive environment with strictly limited seating for senior secondary students. Principal Satwant Kaur urged applicants to be strategic during the digital registration process. “Because seats in Meritorious Schools are so limited, we strongly advise students to select both SOE and Meritorious Schools as their options,” Satwant Kaur said. “This ensures that if they miss the cut-off for a Meritorious seat, they still remain eligible for the high-quality education offered at a School of Eminence.”
Seat availability in Ludhiana
The district’s Meritorious School provides 500 total seats for Class 11, distributed across three primary streams with a mandated gender ratio of 60% for girls and 40% for boys: non-nedical (300 seats), medical (100 seats), and commerce (100 seats)
Registration progress
While some schools in the district report near-total participation, others are still working to bridge the gap. Education officials have directed school heads to actively motivate eligible students to apply before the Sunday deadline.
As per the data shared by the education department, several schools are showing high participation rates while others continue to push for full enrollment. At SOE Division No. 3, 357 out of 392 eighth-grade students have registered so far, along with 292 out of 319 students from class tenth. At SOE Mundian Kalan, 549 of the 847 eighth-grade students have completed the process, while 684 out of 933 tenth-grade students have registered.
In other parts of the district, Govt High School Salem Tabri reports that 40 out of 98 eighth-grade students have applied, though they have reached a 100% registration rate for their 70 tenth-grade students. At SOE Jagraon, 101 of the 116 eighth-grade students and 71 of the 104 tenth-grade students are currently signed up for the exam.
In Khanna, Govt High School Amloh Road has recorded 80 registrations out of 102 students in the eighth grade and 70 registrations out of 94 students in the tenth grade as the new deadline approaches.
