Student outfits seek probe into ‘discrimination’ in assistant prof recruitment in MDU, ETEducation
Rohtak: Student organisations met Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding an inquiry into alleged discrimination against deserving candidates in the assistant professor recruitment at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, being conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).
The education minister assured the students that the matter would be investigated at the earliest. Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO) state president, Deepak Malik, alleged that in several subjects, the pass percentage of candidates from the state was abnormally low, while candidates from other states recorded significantly higher pass percentages.
He claimed that in many subjects, only candidates scoring between 60 to 80 percent marks were declared successful, a trend that is markedly different from previous years. Malik termed this pattern suspicious and demanded a thorough investigation to ensure fairness and transparency in the recruitment process.
Raising another issue, Deepak Dhankhar, state president of the Association of Students for Alternative Politics, referred to protests held during the tenure of former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar over the operation of buses for students.
He said that during that period, cases were registered against him due to the agitation, yet no concrete solution was provided by the govt. He further stated that around 3 years ago, the state govt announced the operation of approximately 600 special buses across Haryana to facilitate the commute of girl students from villages to educational institutions.
About a year ago, data was also collected from educational institutions regarding the number of girl students commuting from different villages. However, despite these steps, the scheme has not been implemented so far.
Responding to the students, education minister Dhanda said that the state is the first state in the country to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP). He stated that under the NEP, emphasis is being laid on employment-oriented education, skill development, and innovation.
The minister said that the new education policy is not limited to awarding academic degrees but aims to make youth self-reliant and responsible citizens. He added that while the central govt has set a target to fully implement the NEP across the country by 2030, Haryana has achieved its complete implementation by 2025.
