Guwahati: In an effort to transform higher education in Assam, governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, acting as the chancellor of state universities, set up an expert committee to introduce the “Professor of Practice” (PoP) initiative in state universities.

This reform allows professionals from varied sectors to contribute to academia, even in the absence of conventional academic qualifications. This committee held its inaugural meeting at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

The initiative, launched by the University Grants Commission under the National Education Policy 2020, aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The committee will be led by Prof. Amit Patra, director of IIT BHU, Varanasi.
