SPCSS-TN calls for V-Cs to boycott conference with Governor Ravi, ET Education
Madurai: The State Platform for Common School System – Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-TN) has strongly condemned the conference of vice-chancellors of state, central, and private universities convened by Governor R N Ravi on April 25-26 at Ooty. The SPCSS-TN called upon teacher and student organisations and university bodies to pass resolutions and ensure that V-Cs boycott the conference. P B Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary of SPCSS-TN, alleged that the governor deliberately convened the conference without the involvement of the state higher education department to create confusion and doubts in the administration of higher education institutions in the state.
“The Tamil Nadu govt, over the course of decades, upheld the right to education and ensured access to school education for all in various ways. The govt is also striving for 100% of students who completed schooling to get higher education as well. State universities were established to allow access to higher education at affordable costs. The National Education Policy 2020, however, is set to disrupt the structure of education and institutions,” he said.
The SPCSS-TN further charged that Governor Ravi was unwilling to understand the structure of higher education in the state. By disrespecting state department officials, he is trying to provoke heads of educational institutions against the state govt.
“The governor is only the chancellor in state universities. He has absolutely no role in central and private universities. This conference was convened without even any nod from the Centre. This sets a bad precedent that anyone can conduct a conference of V-Cs from all educational institutions,” added Babu.
