Seven govt schools were upgraded to high schools in the district for the year 2025-26. The education department gave the green signal to start 9th and 10th classes in these sanctioned schools. There was a lot of demand from parents and locals to upgrade the schools to Class 10. At present, 119 govt high schools are functioning in the district.The schools will now be developed into model schools where students will be trained with high-quality education and other co-curricular activities. These schools will be equipped with smart classrooms and improved infrastructure. Now, the seven schools will start classes 9 and 10. The upgradation of schools will help children avoid moving to private and other places for high school education.

SM Hudedamani, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan deputy project coordinator at the DDPI’s office, told TOI that seven schools were upgraded into high schools in the district. The schools will help students avoid travelling to other places for high school studies. There was strong demand for these high schools to be opened. We have selected such schools with all facilities such as strength, no existing high schools nearby, and land for the construction of buildings, etc. According to the criteria, all these schools have been upgraded. Funds will be provided for the development of these schools, he added.

Gangadhar Kagi, in-charge headmaster of the govt school Bhogenagarakoppa, said that the school started in 1942 and there are 420 students learning from LKG to class 8. Now, 9th and 10th classes will be commence shortly. Around 30 students are ready to join class 9. The children here are moving to other places for high school. The upgraded school will help children in surrounding areas. The villagers here provided 2 acres of land for the high school. Soon, a separate building will be constructed after the approval of funds, he said.

Schools upgraded

In the district, seven govt schools including Govt TCW Kannada, Dharwad, Govt TCW Urdu, Dharwad, Govt High Bhogenagarakoppa Kalghatagi, in Hubballi Rural, Govt school in Revadihal, Govt school, Agadi. In Hubballi city, Govt school, Unkal and Govt School Tabibaland have been upgraded.
