School principal, clerk held taking Rs 35k bribe to appoint teacher, ETEducation
Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested the principal and a clerk of Sheth Shri LV & KV Bhavsar Vidya Mandir School in Detroj town of Ahmedabad district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000.
According to ACB officials, the complainant, who had cleared the govt’s Teachers’ Aptitude Test (TAT) on July 29, was appointed as a teacher at the school. When she reported for duty, school principal Kamlesh Patel allegedly informed her that he had altered her appointment to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) quota under the National Education Policy (NEP). He then demanded Rs 35,000 for confirming her appointment.
Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the ACB. A trap was laid on Tuesday at the school office, during which Patel allegedly instructed junior clerk Vimal Patel to collect the bribe on his behalf. The clerk accepted the Rs 35,000, which was immediately recovered by the ACB team.
Both the accused were arrested and booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
