School headmistress transferred after students were seen pressing her hands and feet, ETEducation
DHARMAPURI: The headmistress of panchayat-run primary school in Dharmapuri district has been temporarily transferred to another school after a video of some students pressing her hands and feet went viral on social media.
The incident happened at a panchayat-run primary school in Maverippatty village near Harur where more than 30 children are studying.
A video of school children pressing the hands and feet of headmistress Kalaivani was circulated widely on social media on Tuesday. In response, parents decided not to send their children to school on Wednesday. They held a protest outside the school.
District chief education officer (DEO) Vijayakumar, tahsildar Perumal and revenue inspector Sathyapriya visited the school and engaged in peace talks with the parents. They spoke to the headmistress and the students involved.
The parents alleged that the teachers had intimidated the students to prevent them from disclosing such incidents to their parents. They sought appropriate action against the headmistress.
Harur DEO Vijayakumar said investigations were on and the headmistress had been temporarily transferred to another school. “Action will be initiated against Kalaivani based on the outcome of the inquiry,” he said.
