Research Studies Of The Week

I often write about research studies from various fields and how they can be applied to the classroom. I write individual posts about ones that I think are especially significant, and will continue to do so. However, so many studies are published that it’s hard to keep up. So I’ve started writing a “round-up” of some of them each week or every other week as a regular feature.
You can see all my “Best” lists related to education research here.
Here are some new useful studies (and related resources):
Interventions to Teacher Well-Being and Burnout A Scoping Review
The Effects of School Building HVAC System Conditions on Student Academic and Behavioral Outcomes
Exploring the Move Away from ‘Zero -Tolerance’ Policies: Evidence from Restorative Justice Practices in Texas and Michigan Schools is a new study. I’m adding it to The Best Resources For Learning About Restorative Practices – Help Me Find More.
A meta-analysis on the effect of technology on the achievement of less advantaged students is a new study. I’m adding it to The Best Research Available On The Use Of Technology In Schools.
The Effect of Student-Centered Strategies, Methods and Techniques Used in Mathematics Teaching on Problem Solving Skills: A Meta-Analysis Study is a new study that finds “student-centered strategies” are more effective than “traditional” teaching methods, but its broad and vague definition of what “student centered” means (and its lack of even trying to define what “traditional” means) make the research less useful than it could have been. For example, here’s how it defines “student centered strategies”:
the problem solving method, project management, computer-assisted teaching method, cooperative learning, learning based on multiple intelligence theory, drama method, educational games technique, concept cartoons technique.
