Patna University likely to seek NAAC accreditation under new norms, ETEducation
Patna: Moving beyond the old CGPA system, Patna University (PU) is likely to seek its accreditation in the second cycle from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) under its new maturity-based graded binary accreditation system.
A meeting of heads of post graduate departments and principals of colleges to discuss the matter was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Namita Singh.
PU’s internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) director Birendra Prasad explained the concept of the new binary system of accreditation for institutions which meet minimum quality standards. The maturity-based binary grading system is a progression from Level 1 (foundational) to Level 5 (global excellence).
Under this system, peer teams will use technology to assess the institution, making the visits to the university virtual. This new system aims to encourage broader participation and ensure all higher education institutions reach a fundamental quality benchmark, said Prasad.
It was decided in the meeting that all the institutions attached with PU will make necessary preparations for meeting the requirements of NAAC and score a commendable grade based on its performance. The university officials, along with NAAC coordinators of different colleges, were also apprised of the file management aspects of e-governance by the Samarth teams from Delhi University and Patna University on the occasion.
PU was accredited with B+ grade in 2019. The university will apply for its re-accreditation in the second cycle as soon as the NAAC opens its portal.
