Not just school fee, tuitions burn holes in pockets too, ETEducation
Hyderabad: It’s not just school fees, but private tuition fees, especially for high school students, have also become costly. In fact, some teachers are reportedly charging around 1 lakh annually for an hour’s tuition every day. According to some parents, most teachers charge the same fee for online and offline tuition and this fee is for group tuition, not private lessons.
“I am paying 95,000 to a teacher for mathematics, physics and chemistry. He teaches a group of about 10 class 10 students for an hour every day, covering one of these subjects,” said Sneha Reddy, a parent.
She added that the fee must be paid in full at the time of enrolment.
Another parent, Vijaya N, said that she pays 9,000 per month for one-hour online classes. “The problem is that children are unable to study on their own. So, we have no option but to take tuition classes, at least for the core subjects. Teachers have understood this and are not willing to reduce the fee even if we opt for online classes,” said the parent of a class 9 student.
Parents said that teachers are expecting an average of at least 1,000 per class, which translates to 30,000 per month — way higher than the average school fees in the state. They pointed out that some teachers are charging between 25,000 and 60,000 per year to teach a single subject.
“Whether online or offline, there isn’t much difference in the way I teach or conduct exams. So, the fee remains the same, and children can attend in person or online based on their convenience. Along with concepts, I also tell them how to perform in exams and conduct regular tests,” said a tutor who teaches ICSE students.
Venkatesh B, another tutor who works at a CBSE school in Kukatpally, said: “I used to hold tuition classes at my place and charge 3,000 per month. However, I realised that I could earn more by doing home tuition. If someone wants me to teach just two or three hours a week, I earn good money as I charge at least 1,000 per hour,” he added.
