Minimum mark criteria leaves 54 teacher posts vacant, ETEducation
Ajmer: The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) is facing the problem of lack of qualified candidates after setting minimum eligibility marks in different selection exams.
In the recent results that were announced Monday, RPSC mentioned that for the post of 350 senior teachers of Science in the dept of secondary education only 296 candidates were found eligible.
According to officials, the RPSC initiated minimum passing marks in most selection procedures to bring quality and better candidates into state govt jobs. “Previously, only the merit list was the criterion, and due to a candidate who scored even 10 marks out of 100, they became a teacher in a govt school. But now, a candidate who is appearing for the job of Science teacher should have at least 40 to 45% marks to qualify for the post,” said an official source.
The senior teacher recruitment exam for various subjects was held last year across 25 districts with 1,68,205 applicants. However, RPSC sources said that 359 candidates were disqualified because they failed to mark any option in some questions.
Following the announcement of the senior teacher Science results, only 296 candidates qualified in the exam, leaving 54 posts vacant. “In many reserved categories, not a single candidate qualified for the examination, including ex-servicemen, widows, and disabled categories,” added the official.
He added that the state govt will now give directions about the remaining vacancies, whether they will be included in a future exam or whether the RPSC will consider candidates from the broader merit list.
Sources added that with this revised system ensures that only deserving candidates with adequate subject knowledge make it to teaching positions.
