Kolhapur: Police arrested a maths teacher from a school in Kolhapur district for sexually harassing girl students of Std IX. The court sent the teacher, who is in his late 30s, to police custody on Wednesday until July 5.

Assistant inspector Shivaji Kare, of the Murgud police station, said, “The teacher has worked here since 2014. The four girl students, aged 14 years, complained that he had made various actions that hurt their dignity.”

Parents and residents beat up the teacher after the students complained to their parents. They dragged him out of the school, and a video of the incident went viral.

Taking cognisance of the alleged crime, minister Hasan Mushrif ordered the immediate arrest of the teacher. The school immediately suspended the teacher.
