Thiruvananthapuram: GHSS, Marayamuttom, near Neyyattinkara is introducing rifle shooting training for students, becoming the first school in the public education sector to offer such an initiative. The programme aims to strengthen both physical skill and mental resilience among students, while opening doors to new sporting opportunities.

Additional district nodal officer, Thiruvananthapuram rural, Subhash formally launched the programme on Sunday in the presence of students and teachers. The function was presided over by Prince Jayakumar, SPC PTA president. Rifle shooting coach Shubhanandalal led the technical orientation session.

School PTA president Regikumar, SMC chairman Sajikumar, headmistress Shissy, senior assistant Nandini, staff secretary Sindhu, sports organiser and CPO Soudish Thampi, ACPO Ragi, and PTA member Sharanya attended the event.

Teachers said the goal is to groom future national and Olympic-level shooters, proving that such opportunities are within reach of every student.
