Lucknow University to introduce 4-year integrated B.Ed course, ETEducation
Lucknow: Lucknow University is set to introduce a four-year integrated Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme.
The programme will integrate undergraduate studies with professional teacher education, enabling students to earn both qualifications within a reduced time frame.
Although the Academic Council had approved the course in 2024, it could not be implemented earlier as procedural requirements were pending.
Under the programme, students will pursue a subject-based undergraduate degree alongside B.Ed training. After completion, the graduates will be eligible to teach at secondary and senior secondary levels and appear for the Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test (CTET) and other teaching recruitment examinations.
Head of the Education department Dinesh Kumar said, “Currently, aspiring teachers are required to complete a bachelor’s degree followed by a separate two-year B.Ed course. The integrated B.Ed programme will allow students to save one academic year by combining both degrees. The programme will also develop professional competencies required to establish and manage educational institutions.”
The curriculum will be framed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines, with emphasis on skill based learning, classroom practice, and field exposure.
In line with NEP 2020, the course will offer multiple entry and exit options. Students exiting after one year will receive a certificate, after two years a diploma, and after three years a bachelor’s degree, while completion of all four years will lead to the award of the integrated B.Ed degree.
