Lucknow teacher’s online class gets NCERTpat, teaching videos now on govt platforms, ETEducation
Lucknow: Impressed by his innovative way of teaching students through his YouTube channel that he started during the Covid-induced lockdown in 2020, the the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has sent the videos of Harishchandra Singh, an educator at govt-aided BKT Govt Inter College in Lucknow, to all govt science learning platforms.
Not only this, but his science teaching also helped six students from the school being selected for the govt’s INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) Scheme. Singh will also be awarded ‘Rajya Adhyapak Puruskar’ (state teacher award) at the Teachers’ Day celebrations in Lucknow on Friday.
Known for consistently achieving a 90% success rate in Class 10 board examinations, Singh’s contributions to education are manifold. His dedication and innovative approach set a benchmark in teaching, earning him numerous accolades. “I was appointed as a govt teacher in 1998, and since then, I have maintained a record that all students taught science by me have scored around or above 90% marks in Class 10.”
His outstanding teaching methods has caught the attention of the NCERT experts, who sent his educational videos from the ‘Classes by Harishchandra’ channel to prominent govt platforms such as Doordarshan, E-Gyan Ganga, and Swayam Prabha. Additionally, six students of BKT Inter College, taught by him, were selected for the prestigious INSPIRE Scheme. This initiative by the Govt of India’s Department of Science & Technology aims to attract talented youth to the field of science and bolster the nation’s research and development workforce. This is considered the biggest achievement of this govt school since it was established in 1952.
“I am a science teacher, and I aim to nurture the best science professionals and scientists for the country. When it comes to science teaching, people often look down upon govt schools and believe that govt schools lack infrastructure like laboratories and good teachers. I wanted to prove this wrong,” said Singh.
He said, “I began my YouTube channel for science learners of classes 6 to 10 with the aim that every student gets to study science for free. I used simple language so that students don’t find it difficult to understand. My YouTube channel doesn’t have too many subscribers, but it has reached students across the state and the country as it was selected by NCERT to be showcased on Doordarshan.”
“The channel aimed at enhancing science learning for students. It quickly gained popularity, particularly among students in the Hindi heartland, catching the attention of the NCERT expert team. Six of my students have made it to the INSPIRE scheme, which itself is an example that govt school science students are not less than anyone in any area,” he added.
