Jadavpur University executive council rejects centralisation of pension scheme, ETEducation
Kolkata: Jadavpur University executive council decided that the university would not adopt the centralisation of pension disbursement via the DPPG and HRMS system amid protests and a sit-in demonstration by teachers on Tuesday. The teachers demanded rejection of the HRMS and DPPG systems to maintain the university’s financial independence.
Presidency University authorities also decided the DPPG and HRMS system would “not be implementable as it would jeopardise the academic atmosphere of the institute”, following an agitation by their teachers on Monday.
Around 500 JU teachers from across departments staged a demonstration at Aurobindo Bhavan even as the EC meeting was underway. JUTA, on behalf of teachers, non-teaching staff, officials and pensioners, submitted a memorandum to the EC. ABUTA, JU Local Chapter, declared a cease-work and also submitted a letter.
“Teachers argued that the new system was both illegal and unethical, as it violated the specific service conditions and statutes under which they were recruited. Although the representative from the higher education council repeatedly tried to obstruct the discussion in the EC, the VC confirmed the university would not adopt HRMS or DPPG,” said JUTA general secretary Partha Pratim Ray. He added, “A demand to hold elections for teachers’ representatives in the EC and other bodies was also accepted, and the process will begin by Jan 30.”
