The Government of Ireland has announced that applications for the 2026 Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship programme will open on January 29, 2026. The programme will offer 60 scholarships to international students for one year of full-time postgraduate study, providing a €10,000 stipend along with a full tuition fee waiver from host institutions.
The scholarships are targeted at international students enrolling in master’s, postgraduate diploma or PhD programmes at NFQ levels 9 or 10 in eligible Irish higher education institutions. The initiative is funded by the Government of Ireland, delivered in partnership with higher education institutions and managed by the Higher Education Authority.
What the scholarship offers
Each Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship includes a stipend of €10,000 to support living costs for one academic year. Host institutions are required to provide a full waiver of tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
The programme supports students across a range of disciplines and is positioned as part of Ireland’s broader international education and talent strategy.
Eligibility and application timeline
Applicants must be domiciled outside the EU, EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Candidates must hold a conditional or final offer of admission from an eligible Irish institution at the time of applying. Those who have previously received a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship are not eligible to apply. Russian and Belarusian nationals are also excluded under the 2026 call.
