Immediately reinstate expelled girl student: Telangana HC, ETEducation
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court came to the rescue of a class VIII student who was allegedly illegally expelled by the management of a wellknown school in Khairatabad.
The court ordered the management to immediately reinstate the girl and allow her to return to regular classes and all school activities from today, October 25.
The court also directed the school to allow the girl to participate in all academic and co-curricular activities and to treat her as a bonafide student on the rolls of the school without insisting on any further conditions, formalities, or undertakings. The school was instructed not to subject the petitioner to any form of discrimination, harassment, or exclusion.
Further directing the school to file a detailed counter on the student’s petition, Justice Surepally Nanda of the high court posted the matter to November 3 for final orders. The court was hearing the petition filed by the girl, who claimed that she was severely injured on the school campus when a ceiling fan fell on her face after getting detached from the roof in the classroom.
The girl claimed that even as she underwent multiple surgeries on her eyes, she was left with permanent partial disability in her right eye. Further, she developed secondary difficulties of vision and psychological distress, which disrupted her academics.
The girl’s father lodged a case against the management at Khairatabad police station, alleging negligence on their part that resulted in the girl’s condition. As a result of this, the management expelled the girl without any prior notice, the girl argued. However, the school’s counsel argued that the girl was expelled from the school due to her absence since the last week of August. After hearing both sides, Justice Nanda passed an interim order.
