Gurgaon: In a bid to elevate teaching standards, Haryana schools are integrating experiential learning techniques across senior classes under the NEP 2020 framework. The initiative aims to equip teachers with modern pedagogical tools like game-based learning and practical activities.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is leading this transformation. To ensure successful implementation, SCERT conducted a large-scale three-day training programme for post-graduate teachers (PGTs).

Between Sept 1 and 4, PGT teachers of Biology, Economics, Hindi and Science were trained. More than 200 teachers took part in the programme.

SCERT had earlier instructed every govt school to nominate at least one teacher per subject for this training. District education officers had been instructed to send the names of selected teachers, and non-compliance would result in disciplinary action.

According to officials, the changes are designed to create a more flexible, interdisciplinary, and child-centric learning environment. The curriculum has been redesigned to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and deeper understanding. The revised approach promotes “learning by doing”, where children are actively involved in the learning process, making it more interactive and impactful.

One of the key objectives of this reform is to make subjects more accessible and relatable to students. The state education department also eliminated the earlier ‘stream system’ at the senior secondary level, dividing school education into four distinct stages as per NEP guidelines. Each stage will be supported by specially trained teachers who are equipped to handle the new methodology.

This major pedagogical shift is expected to foster curiosity among students and improve overall learning outcomes. According to Sunil Bajaj, Joint Director of SCERT, the move will not only make learning more enjoyable but also help raise the standard of education in Haryana’s govt schools by aligning it with the vision of NEP 2020.
