Gurgaon govt schools set to transform education with AI curriculum rollout, ETEducation
Gurgaon: Govt schools in Haryana are set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the regular curriculum from the upcoming academic session. The initiative, led by Haryana education department, will be implemented in phases, starting with Class 9 students and gradually extending to Classes 10, 11, and 12.
According to officials, the AI syllabus will consist of 40 to 45-minute sessions integrated across five subjects. The curriculum is designed to enhance students’ creativity, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency with digital tools, preparing them for higher education and future employment in a technology-driven world.
Until now, digital education in state-run schools has largely been limited to basic computer skills such as writing emails, sending messages, and downloading files. With the introduction of AI modules, students will be exposed to more advanced topics, including practical applications of AI, data handling, prompt engineering, and foundational coding concepts.
“This is a huge leap from what we’ve been learning so far,” said Sakshi Verma, a Class 10 student from a government school in Gurgaon. “AI sounded like something only tech experts used. Now we’ll get to learn it in our own classroom!”
Mohit Kumar, a Class 12 student, said, “This will help those of us aiming for engineering or data science careers. It makes school feel more connected to the real world.”
To facilitate the transition, state council of educational research and training (SCERT) has developed a five-day training module for teachers. Around one lakh teachers will undergo training in phases, covering AI fundamentals, classroom integration, question paper design, and evaluation methods.
Two master trainers from each district have been trained and will now train others at the local level. The programme also includes modules on creating slides, graphics, tables, and notes, helping teachers become more adept in digital pedagogy.
Officials confirmed that the curriculum aligns with the national education policy (NEP) 2020, which prioritises the integration of technology in education. “This step ensures our students are not just consumers of technology but active creators,” said a senior SCERT official.
