Patna: Unidentified assailants shot dead a 28-year-old govt school teacher from Uttar Pradesh, Shivani Kumari, while she was on way to her school riding a scooty in Araria district on Wednesday. The reason for murder is not known.
The incident occurred around 8.30am near Khabda Kanhaili Middle School, where she joined a few months back. According to eyewitnesses, two youths on a bike shot her and fled the scene. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Shivani, a resident of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh, recently joined the school and was living in a rented house in Narpatganj. Her engagement took place a few days ago, and her wedding was scheduled soon, police said.
After hearing a gunshot, local villagers gathered at the scene. Following this, villagers Sudhir Yadav and Gaurav Kumar somehow took the injured Shivani in a car and brought her to Araria Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Eyewitness Sudhir said, “I was sowing wheat in my field. Meanwhile, I saw some people running towards the school. I also joined them and found Shivani madam lying in a pool of blood. After this, Gaurav and I took her to the hospital.”
According to Sudhir, two masked motorcycle-borne miscreants shot the teacher in the head from close range and fled the spot.
Upon getting information about the incident, Araria SP Anjani Kumar, Forbesganj SDPO Mukesh Kumar Sah, and Narpatganj police reached the spot and started investigation.
Araria SP said, “The police are scanning the CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the shooters. We are investigating all the angles, including a possible love affair, personal enmity, or a loot incident that resulted in the murder. The case will be solved soon.”>
