Fostering Human Connection in Digital Age, ETEducation
Ranchi: To sensitise students on the importance of human relationships in a world increasingly going digital, schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are gearing up to organise a letter-writing competition at the school level.
The exercise is part of the International Letter Writing Competition organised annually by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The competition will be held in May. For the first time, the CBSE formally decided to involve its students in a contest to foster creativity, writing skills, and critical thinking.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Why human connection is important in the digital world.”
As part of the contest, students will be required to write a letter to a friend expressing their thoughts on a specified theme. Letters can be written in English or in any recognised language listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Speaking about the initiative, principal of the Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, said, “To sensitise students on the value of emotional bonding, empathy and meaningful communication, schools will guide their students for the event. Letter writing helps students slow down, reflect, and reconnect with emotions, relationship values that often get lost in today’s screen-driven communication.”
Similarly, principal of GD Goenka, Sunil Kumar, said, “We regularly organise writing competitions and encourage letter writing to help students build stronger social connections. Through this initiative, we aim to encourage our students to reflect deeply on human values and relationships, while also strengthening their creative writing and communication skills.”
The International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union will select three winners from entries received from member countries. The winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, along with certificates and other prizes. The gold medal winner may also get an opportunity to visit the UPU headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. Additionally, the best national-level entry will represent India at the international competition.
