Exams & research hit as Acharya Nagarjuna University runs without vice-chancellor since Oct 8, ETEducation
Guntur: Academic and administrative activities at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) have been affected for the past week due to the absence of a vice-chancellor. As the in-charge V-C was relieved even before his successor could assume charge, it has affected the university’s day-to-day functioning, including exam schedules and research approvals.
Students alleged that their semester exams, results, and certificates are stuck. With no one authorised to sign or approve files, the academic system has been particularly hit. “We are unable to plan for our higher studies or placements. Even minor approvals like transcripts or project clearances are pending for days,” said a postgraduate student.
According to officials, at least 20 official works — ranging from exam notifications to faculty matters — require the vice-chancellor’s approval daily. In his absence, every section has been left waiting for directions.
The government issued a GO on Oct 8, relieving Prof Kancharla Gangadhar of the computer science department from his duties as in-charge V-C, while simultaneously appointing Prof Venkata Satyanarayana Raju Samantapudi, currently the vice-chancellor of Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, and professor of entomology at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), as the new full-term V-C.
However, Prof Raju has reportedly informed the govt that he can assume charge only by the end of Oct, citing his ongoing commitments at Banda University. Before joining ANU, he must also report to his parent institution, BHU, to complete the deputation formalities.
“It is strange that a university of ANU’s stature, with thousands of students and hundreds of affiliated colleges, has been left without any officiating head for days. The department should have anticipated this transition and made some interim arrangement,” said a senior professor on condition of anonymity. Stakeholders have appealed to the govt and the governor’s office to take immediate steps by at least appointing a full additional charge vice-chancellor temporarily.
