Education shapes thinking, extends beyond classroom: Prof Algur, ETEducation
Mangaluru: Education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge, but the process of shaping one’s thinking, morality, and outlook on life, said Prof Siddu P Algur, vice-chancellor of Central University of Kerala. It extends beyond the classroom and represents a transformation that cannot be measured by grades or certificates, he added. He was delivering the convocation address at the 15th Annual Convocation Ceremony of Nitte (Deemed to be University), held at the Nitte off-campus centre at Nitte, Karkala, on Saturday.
Prof Algur emphasised that true education teaches not what to think, but how to think, fostering curiosity and a spirit of inquiry. We must use technology not just for convenience but to improve the quality of life—in energy, agriculture, healthcare, and equitable education, he advised.
Presiding over the ceremony, Dr M Shantharam Shetty, pro-chancellor of (Hospital Management), Nitte (DU), said, “Science inspires us to innovate; technology enables us to create. Providing quality education and nurturing good values are the foremost duties of every educational institution.”
During the ceremony, gold medal winners from various disciplines were honoured, and degrees were conferred on 646 graduates. Among them were 38 students of Master of Technology, 178 (MCA), and 179 MBA recipients. In the undergraduate category, degrees were awarded to 52 graduates of Bachelor of Business Administration, 54 Bachelor of Commerce, 51 Bachelor of Commerce (Professional), 65 Bachelor of Computer Applications, and 29 Bachelor of Science (Data Analytics) graduates.
