DSMNRU to set up 4 facilities to support disabled students, ETEducation
Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) will soon set up four major facilities on the campus to make the lives of disabled students easier.
From a sports prosthetic facility and a wheelchair rehabilitation service to a digital laboratory for making artificial limbs, all will be established on the campus.
“We are establishing a digital technology laboratory on the campus in which 3D printing will be used to scan the feet of individuals with disabilities and make appropriate modifications using a computer to create artificial limbs. This will provide quality prosthetics and limb services based on modern technology to individuals with disabilities,” said DSMNRU vice chancellor Prof Sanjay Singh.
“We are establishing an aesthetic prosthetics rehabilitation service. This service will create cosmetically natural-looking prosthetic limbs, helping individuals with disabilities overcome the psychological impact of amputation. Artificial fingers, nose, and ear prosthetics will be manufactured at the centre using this equipment,” he added.
“Another facility that will further support our disabled students is sports prosthetics. We are planning to establish and develop high-quality prosthetic limbs, such as blade runner prosthetics, to encourage individuals with disabilities to participate in state, national, and international sports,” the VC said.
He added, “We are establishing a wheelchair rehabilitation service on the campus. This service will prevent wheelchair-related problems, such as ulcers, and provide customised wheelchair services. This service will measure the pressure exerted on various parts of the body by wheelchair use using a pressure mapping machine and provide adaptations (sitting cushions, etc.) to reduce this pressure.”
