
Cold wave alert prompts two-day shutdown in 13 districts, ETEducation
Ranchi/ Jamshedpur/ Hazaribag: The administrations of many districts on Thursday ordered the closure of all schools located in their area on Friday and Saturday after the Ranchi office of India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for cold wave in 13 districts of the state.
The 13 districts are Khunti, Ranchi, Gumla, Chatra, Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Simdega, West Singhbhum, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Bokaro.
Head of the Ranchi IMD, Abhishek Anand, said, “Several areas are likely to witness cold wave situation due to the north-westerly wind prevailing in lower tropospheric levels over Jharkhand. Fog will be reported in morning hours.”
Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri ordered the suspension of KG to Class XII in all govt and private schools on Friday and Saturday.
“The decision has been taken in consideration of the meteorological department’s cold wave alert,” a notification issued by the administration read.
However, all teachers and non-teaching staff in govt schools have to mark their attendance on e-Vidyavahini portal during the period and ensure that they complete non-academic work, the notice read.
East Singhbhum DC Karn Satyarthi said, “If any exam is scheduled during this period, the school concerned will decide the matter at its own discretion.”
Hazaribag and other districts also issued the order.
Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C, Jamshedpur 8.4°C, Daltonganj 3.4°C, Bokaro 6.5°C, Chaibasa 6.4°C, and Hazaribag 2.9°C, the lowest in the state on Thursday.
The department of school education and literacy on Monday had all schools to be shut till Thursday.
