Berhampur University to Launch New Integrated Teacher Education Programs Starting 2026, ETEducation
Berhampur: Berhampur University will introduce three new integrated teacher education programmes (ITEP) under its School of Education from the 2026-27 academic session.
Vice-chancellor Geetanjali Dash on Friday said, “The university has received a letter of intent from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for introduction of the four-year courses on B.Sc-B Ed, BA-B Ed and B.Com-B Ed, on Thursday.” The course would be introduced after the syndicates’s approval, sources said.
The university authorities applied to the NCTE under the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 seeking to introduce the four-year ITEP. After inspecting the School of Education’s infrastructure through virtual mode, the apex organization in teacher education approved the proposal. “Students who want to make a career in teaching will be benefited by the new course,” said Dash.
“The NCTE has granted for the intake capacity of 50 students for each course,” said Sanjit Kumar Sahu, principal of the School of Education.
The university had sought permission for 100 seats in each programme. The ITEP will cater to students completing Class XII who wish to enter the teaching profession. Admission will be through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). “The programme is aimed at creating well-trained, practice-ready teachers,” he added.
Currently, Berhampur University offers a two-year B.Ed and MA (Education) in self-financing mode under its School of Education, with 50 and 32 seats respectively. The university syndicate would decide the modalities before launching the course from next year, he said. These will continue alongside the proposed integrated courses.
