
Assam University honours IPS officer, industrialist, professors with DLitt at its 23rd convocation, ETEducation
Silchar: Senior IPS officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta and industrialist Anand Gopal Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, were among the eminent personalities conferred honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degrees by Assam University at its 23rd convocation held here on Monday.
The university also honoured Prof. Niranjan Roy, vice-chancellor of Gurucharan University, Silchar, for his contributions to Sanskrit, and Prof. Partha Sarkar, senior faculty member of the department of mass communication at Assam University.
The three-day convocation programme saw as many as 13,666 students receiving degrees, marking one of the largest academic convocations in the region.
The honorary degrees were formally conferred by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute pro-chancellor Swami Atmapriyanandaji, in the presence of Assam University chancellor Arup Raha, vice-chancellor Rajive Mohan Pant and other dignitaries.
Mahindra could not attend the ceremony in person.
