
AM Khan appointed as VC of Karnatak University, Education News, ET Education
Dharwad: After almost nine months, the Karnatak University, state’s second oldest university, has a permanent vice-chancellor.
Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, who is also the Chancellor of the state varsities, has appointed Prof Airani Mohammad Khan as the new vice-chancellor of KU.
According to the order issued on Saturday, the Governor stated that Prof A M Khan has been appointed after his name was shortlisted by the search committee. He will be holding the office for a period of four years or until he attains the age of 67, whichever is earlier.
Before being appointed as the vice-chancellor, Prof Khan was serving at Department of Studies and Research in Electronics at Mangalore University. Biomedical image processing, embedded system design, image/ data processing, algorithm development, IC fabrication technology, computer networks have been his research areas. Prof Khan is likely to take charge on July 7 (Monday).
There was a growing demand from the faculty and students to appoint a regular vice-chancellor after Prof KB Gudasi attained superannuation in Sept, as administrative work was getting affected.
However, the govt appointed three acting vice-chancellor to look into the administrative affairs of the KU. In April this year, a search committee was formed to scrutinise the credentials of the aspirants for the vice-chancellor’s post. Interestingly, over 187 candidates from various universities including Karnatak University had applied for the post.
Prof Vijaya Korishetti new VC of Akkamahadevi Women’s University
Vijayapura: Professor Vijaya Korishetti, head of the department of sociology , and senior faculty member, Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University has been appointed as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of the same University. The order was issued on Thursday by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot who is also the chancellor of state universities. Until now, Professors from other Universities had been appointed vice-chancellors of Akkamahadevi varsity. For the first time, a faculty member from Akkamahadevi Women’s University itself has been appointed to the post. Prof Vijaya will serve as the vice-chancellor for the next four years.
