Over 50,000 candidates clear Maharashtra TET; pass percentage crosses 11% for first time, ETEducation
Pune: The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) on Tuesday declared the final results of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), with 50,369 candidates qualifying this year.
For the first time since the exam began in 2013, the combined pass percentage of Paper I and Paper II has crossed 11%, officials said.
A total of 4.75 lakh candidates in Maharashtra had registered for the TET held on Nov 23 last year across 37 district centres. Of these, 4.46 lakh appeared for the examination, while 28,939 were absent. The overall pass percentage stood at 11.28%. Results of 36 candidates have been kept on hold.
MSCE commissioner Anuradha Oak said the final results were declared after a detailed process of inviting objections to the provisional answer key and interim results. The provisional answer key was released on Dec 19, objections were accepted till Dec 27, and the final answer key was published on Jan 13 this year. Candidates were allowed to raise issues on interim results till Jan 21 before the final declaration on Feb 2, 2026.
In Paper I, the Marathi-medium candidates accounted for the highest share of successful candidates among the eight mediums in which the exam was conducted. One question from the environmental studies section of Paper I was cancelled across all four sets.
Since 2013, nearly 29.74 lakh candidates have appeared for TET in Maharashtra, but only about 1.06 lakh have qualified, reflecting an average pass rate of just 3.5%. The highest pass rate earlier was recorded in 2018 at 5.13%. This year’s results mark a significant rise in the success rate, officials said.
