
Punjab govt renames 15 schools after freedom fighters and martyrs, ETEducation
Chandigarh: With an aim to root values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism in the education system, Punjab govt renamed 15 govt schools across Punjab after freedom fighters and martyrs.
Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains said, “By renaming govt schools after our freedom fighters and martyrs, we are ensuring that their sacrifice and contribution become an integral part of a student’s everyday learning experience.”
Bains said directions were issued to the school education dept authorities to display the life stories and contributions of these personalities, along with their pictures, in schools to impart value-based education and help build character among students. “Schools must actively showcase the lives and ideals of these heroes to inspire students and shape their character through real examples of selfless service,” he said.
Sharing details of the renamed institutions, Bains said, “Govt High School, Sandhu Kalan in Barnala was renamed Shaheed Sepoy Jagdev Singh Govt High School; Govt Senior Secondary School, Ghugiana in Faridkot was renamed Shaheed Naik Surjeet Singh Govt Senior Secondary School; Govt High School, Fatehpur in Mansa was renamed Freedom Fighter Maghar Singh Govt High School; and Govt Senior Secondary School, Dalel Singh Wala was renamed after Comrade Dharam Singh Fakkar.”
He said, “PM SHRI Govt Senior Secondary School (Boys), Bhikhi in Mansa was renamed Shaheed Constable Jaswant Singh PM SHRI Govt Senior Secondary School; Govt Senior Secondary School, Bakshiwala was renamed Freedom Fighter Arjan Singh Govt Senior Secondary School; Govt Middle School, Lubani-anwali in Sri Muktsar Sahib was renamed Freedom Fighter Sarwan Singh Govt Middle School; Govt High School, Hamirgarh in Sangrur was renamed Freedom Fighter Giani Mukand Singh Govt High School; Govt Middle School, Duladi in Patiala was renamed Shaheed Sepoy Pyara Singh Govt Middle School; and Govt High School, Rajpura Town was renamed Freedom Fighter Amir Singh Govt High School.” He asserted, “This is not merely a change of name, but a profound commitment to ensuring that the legacy of these heroes becomes a living, breathing part of the learning environment for thousands of students.”
