For Class X compensation scheme, get at least 10% in 2 failing subjects, ETEducation
Panaji: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has issued a new circular on its compensation scheme introduced from this academic year for Class X students.
The board had already announced that students passing in any four of the six regular subjects in Class X from 2025-26 will be declared pass. However, the board has now said that in the two subjects which the students do not clear, they will have to score at least 10% marks to avail benefit of the compensation scheme.
“The minimum marks required in the two subjects that they do not clear had to be clarified. It is not that the student can pass four subjects and score zero in the two subjects and avail compensation scheme. In the other two subjects the student had to score a minimum of 10%,” said Goa Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye.
After the introduction of the compensation scheme, the scheme for grace marks and condonation marks will no longer stand.
As per the new scheme, as announced earlier, students will have six regular subjects and four skill-based subjects. If a student fails in any two of the regular subjects, but gets a specified minimum of 60%, and above, in two of the skill-based subjects and at least 45% in the other two skill-based subjects, he or she will be declared to have passed. The skill-based subjects include vocational education, art education, physical education, etc.
“To avail the compensation scheme in a maximum of two subjects a candidate must secure a minimum of 10% marks in the theory component and the board practical component, whenever applicable. However, the requirement of securing a minimum of 10% marks in external component shall not be applicable to skill-based or school assessment based subjects,” the board circular to school states.
For students who do not clear Class X after applying the compensation scheme, the ‘allowed to keep term’ (ATKT) scheme will continue. Candidates who are placed under ATKT will be allowed to answer the supplementary examination to improve their performance.
