Lucknow University Introduces AI in Law as Optional Subject, ETEducation
Lucknow University has directed faculty of law to introduce “the use of Artificial Intelligence in law” as an optional subject.
The directive has been issued by vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini to equip law students with contemporary skills required in an increasingly technology driven legal ecosystem.
The VC has also instructed the law faculty to strengthen practical learning. As part of this initiative, students will be provided regular opportunities to interact with senior judges and experienced advocates, helping them bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real world legal practice.
The introduction of AI as an optional subject is expected to familiarize students with emerging technologies that are rapidly transforming the legal profession. AI tools are now widely used in areas such as legal research, case law analysis, contract review, due diligence, and prediction of legal outcomes. By understanding these tools, law students will be better prepared for future roles in litigation, corporate law, policy making, and legal technology startups.
Faculty members believe that exposure to AI will enhance analytical skills and enable students to adapt to global trends in legal education. It will also open new career avenues for students interested in legal innovation, cyber law, data protection, and technology law.
“LU’s aim is to ensure that students remain future-ready,” said Varun Chhachhar, professor, law faculty.
