Hyderabad: Amid criticism over the condition of residential schools in Telangana, a minority residential school (girls) principal in Dharmapuri in Jagtial came under the scanner for multiple allegations, and the minority welfare department has ordered a thorough investigations into five major allegations.
The major allegations were that the principal of TMR, in charge principal and post-graduate teacher (Telugu) Jyothi made the girl students sleep separately, on the floor, during their periods in the hostel and forced other students to throw away soiled sanitary pads.
Minority welfare department secretary B Shafiullah ordered an inquiry against the school principal by framing charges on five to six allegations, including protecting the dignity of the girl students, after some parents protested and gave written complaints against the principal. The secretary said the principal, who was supposed to inform the officers about any incident in the schools, did not inform the parents when a Class 8 student swallowed a rupee coin, and no medical attention was provided immediately. “The officer’s negligence endangered her life and acted irresponsibly and negligently in this issue, and she used abusive and humiliating language towards students, causing mental distress,” the inquiry order said. The other allegations were that the principal failed to take steps to undertake repairs to the building, and all the students were sent home as the building’s walls were damp. During the monsoon, electric shocks and short circuits interfered with the safety and security of the students and staff. “The rains damaged the school building, and the principal did not inform the officers about the dilapidated condition of the building and power supply issues, which posed danger to the students and staff,” the minority welfare department secretary said in his articles of charges issued against the officer.Other allegations were that the principal issued a transfer certificate (TC) to a student who was admitted during the academic year 2023-24, without giving proper counselling. The parents pleaded for the readmission of their daughter, and there were other admission-related issues.
Despite repeated attempts to reach minority welfare secretary B Shafiullah, the officer and his office staff did not respond to the charges against the principal.
