Vice-President calls on students to say no to drugs, exercise caution online, ETEducation
Bengaluru: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan urged students to avoid drugs and to be cautious about their social media activities.
During the silver jubilee celebrations of CMR Institute of Technology in Whitefield Wednesday, he stated, “Drugs should not ruin the lives of the youth in our country. Just three days ago, we held a similar event at Delhi University, and now I urge this university to join us in saying a loud no to drugs.” Following his statement, the university read a pledge committing to a drug-free lifestyle.
“I also advise all of you to be very careful about using social media. Any new invention has both positive and negative impacts. I am not saying you should not use social media. But you should have your own control over your mind. Something should not control your mind or occupy your thinking,” he advised the audience.
He observed that the public universities in Maharashtra, Telangana, and Jharkhand, where he was the Governor, did not fare well in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s grading because no faculty recruitment was done. He also urged colleges and students to equip themselves to adapt to the dramatic changes in the technological field. The Vice-President also inaugurated the institute’s incubation centre.
“India is going to be the supreme power of the world by 2047. Modi set the target, and whenever I met him, he always said he had a lot of confidence in young India. We want to be the most powerful, not to dominate other countries or to impose unjustified norms on them. But nobody should dare to dictate terms to our country,” he said.
The Vice-President also motivated students to face problems in their lives with patience.
