
Bihar govt announces admissions for OBC girls in high schools for new session, ETEducation
Patna: The backward classes and extremely backward classes welfare department, govt of Bihar, on Friday announced the commencement of the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session across 39 other backward classes girls’ residential plus two high schools, operating across all districts of the state.
According to the press release issued by the department, applications are being accepted from Friday for vacant seats in classes VI to IX.
The department has identified several vacancies across the state, with the majority of seats available in Class VI, adding up to 1,560. Additional spots are open for higher grades, including 336 seats for Class VII, 114 for Class VIII, and 149 for Class IX.
To ensure a fair and merit-based selection, the govt will conduct an entrance examination scheduled for March 1. The two-hour objective assessment will test candidates on their knowledge of Hindi, English, mathematics, science, and social science, with each subject carrying 20 marks, adding to a total marks of 100.
To qualify for these residential programmes, applicants must meet specific socio-economic and age-related criteria. The govt has mandated that the combined annual income of the applicant’s parents or guardians must not exceed Rs3 lakh. Furthermore, age limits are strictly defined as of April 1, ranging from 10 to 13 years for Class VI, 11 to 14 years for Class VII, 12 to 15 years for Class VIII, and 13 to 16 years for Class 9.
Aspiring students and their families must adhere to a strict administrative timeline, with the online application window closing on Feb 9, 2026, it said.
Following the submission period, admit cards will be available for download starting mid-Feb, and the entrance exam will be held in early March. The department expects to publish the results by March 13, allowing a week-long enrolment window before classes begin on April 1.
The release said interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the official departmental portal. Local welfare offices in every district will assist those who face technical challenges during the online registration.>
