Exam paper with answers in tow, ETEducation
New Delhi: Diploma students of automobile engineering at the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) were handed a question paper carrying answers during a backlog examination held on Tuesday, after the paper — set on the morning of the exam — was cleared without effective moderation.
The paper had the answer key meant for internal reference, which was not removed.
When contacted, the university said it has ordered an inquiry into the lapse and formed a committee to examine the matter. It said the university will debar the paper setter from exam duties.
An official said the examination could be cancelled and a re-examination conducted depending on the findings of the inquiry.
The examination was held on DSEU‘s Pusa I and GB Pant campuses, where the three-year diploma automobile engineering course is offered.
Around 25 students were appearing for a backlog paper titled “Basics of Electrical and Electronics Engineering”, an end-term examination of 100 marks for 2025–26.
The three-hour paper had multiple-choice questions and the “answer” printed alongside certain options.
A copy of the question paper seen by TOI shows answers marked alongside the questions. Some teachers alleged that all the correct options were sequenced as option “B”. A DSEU official, however, said that as per the answer key submitted by the paper setter, all answers were not positioned as option “B”, and that the allegation would be examined by a subject-matter expert committee.
The official said the paper was prepared in haste on the morning of the examination for a limited number of backlog students. While answer keys are usually submitted separately for internal reference, the key was mistakenly included in the question paper. The error, the official said, went unchecked despite the paper being cleared for the examination.
Various teachers said that question papers are typically prepared in advance and vetted by a moderation or screening committee before being sent for examinations.
“We did not receive any complaints from the campuses where the examination was taking place while the paper was going on,” DSEU controller of examinations Pankaj Lather said. “Based on the committee’s findings, the examination could be declared cancelled and a re-examination conducted.”
Lather added stating that corrective steps would be taken to prevent similar lapses in future examinations.
