Karnataka govt cracks whip on pvt PU colleges, ETEducation
Mangaluru: The department of pre-university education in Dakshina Kannada cracked the whip on several private pre-university colleges after they failed to conduct the preparatory exam-1, which was mandatorily scheduled to be held from Jan 2.
According to sources from the department, parents from these private colleges situated within the city limits complained to the department that, despite a govt order to conduct the preparatory exam, they made no arrangements and gave reasons such as being unaware of it. After HH Rajeshwari, the deputy director of the department of pre-university education (DPUE), visited these colleges, she asked them to conduct it.
On Jan 2, as per the timetable, the chemistry exam was scheduled, and these colleges did not conduct it.
The first preparatory exam started on Jan 2 and will conclude on Jan 17, followed by the second preparatory exam from Jan 19 to 31. The department will use a centralised question paper for all districts.
Online meet was held
“During the visit, representatives from some colleges claimed they were unaware of the preparatory exam, while others said they had already conducted a similar test and therefore did not hold it. However, the department had informed colleges weeks in advance, and the DDPU had even held an online meeting on the issue. Such denial and failure to conduct the exam reflect a clear disregard for govt guidelines,” an official said.
When contacted, Rajeshwari, DDPI of Dakshina Kannada, said she visited the private PU colleges following complaints from parents. During the inspection, the colleges claimed they had already conducted a preparatory exam and therefore did not hold the mandatory one.
“We have instructed them to conduct it at the earliest, and they have agreed,” she said.
