Garhwa: Garhwa schools suffer from acute teacher crunch. In 122 high schools, only 554 TGT teachers are on roll against the sanctioned 1,121 posts, leaving 567 posts vacant. In +2 schools, a total of 202 PGT teachers are on duty against 253 posts across 38 schools. Middle and primary schools have 1,356 teachers against 2339 sanctioned posts.Physical education has only 31 teachers appointed against 80 sanctioned posts across 411 middle schools and 122 high schools.
Shailendra Pathak, Garhwa unit president of the Jharkhand Olympic Association, said, “At a time when the state govt is talking of promoting sports, how can it be possible in absence of physical teachers and play grounds.”
Out of 109 sanctioned posts of Hindi teacher, only 70 are serving. Similarly, there are 44 English teachers against 108 posts, 54 Maths/Physics teachers against 114 posts, 39 Sanskrit teachers against 107 posts, 26 Urdu teachers against 64 posts, 5 Kudukh teachers against 13 posts, 2 Nagpuri teachers against 4 posts.
Shilpi Kumari, principal government girls +2 school (CM School of Excellence) Garhwa said, “The school has 19 subject specific teachers except the history teacher who is likely to be appointed by the govt soon. As of now vocational teacher is taking history classes”.
The headmaster of upgraded high school, Obra, Om Shri Krishnam said, “The school lacks teachers of science, home science and Urdu. A teacher of middle section takes science classes while Physical Education teacher teaches Urdu.”
A parent, Mubarak Ansari, said, “My daughter’s education has been suffering due to lack of science teacher Rama Sahu (CM School of Excellence).
District education officer Qaisar Raza said, “The process of teacher appointment is underway. We are trying to fill the vacant post by borrowing teachers from other schools.”
