Student assaulted by ‘extortion gang’ outside school, ETEducation
Lucknow: A 15-year-old student confined himself to his home following a brutal assault by an extortion gang operating outside a prestigious private school in Indiranagar.
The case involves a prominent school in Bhootnath market area, where the victim, a class 10 student, was allegedly targeted for refusing to pay “protection money“. The victim, a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar, alleged that a gang of 8-10 youths — led by a former senior student and his associate —regularly intercepted students outside the campus. The group demands cash, which they brazenly term “protection money“, and those who refuse are subjected to physical violence.
The victim and his friend were intercepted at the Samudipur intersection while returning from a coaching centre. The gang surrounded the duo and launched a vicious assault, causing the victim to suffer serious injuries to his head and ears. The attackers reportedly fled only after a crowd gathered, but not before issuing a “death threat”.
It was alleged that the attackers glorified violence on social media, highlighting a disturbing trend of “digital hooliganism”. The accused reportedly run a dedicated Instagram meme page where they upload videos of their assaults to establish dominance in the area. Following the attack on the victim, the gang uploaded a clip of the beating with the caption “Revenge Completed”. This was followed by another post captioned “Shootout Done”, further traumatising the victim and his family.
However, ACP Indiranagar, Anindya Vikram Singh said that a preliminary probe revealed that both parties are minors and have fought in the past also. “We are scanning the CCTV cameras to know the exact sequence of events on the day of the attack,” said Singh.
