Jind varsity assistant professors booked for sexual harassment, ETEducation
Jind: The Jind police lodged an FIR against two assistant professors for allegedly sexually harassing girl students at Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (CRSU), SP Kuldeep Singh said on Friday.
The action comes after Haryana Women Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia slammed the university officials for not registering an FIR even 24 hours after receiving the complaint during a campus visit on Thursday evening.
Around 50 girl students had levelled the allegations against the professors during a meeting with vice-chancellor Rampal Saini on Nov 27. The university constituted an internal complaint committee comprising 11 members.
Sources said several victims have now come forward and are willing to record their statements before the special investigation team (SIT) led by ASP Sonakshi Singh along with two other female officers.
Police officially revealed the names of both the accused — Kapil Bangar and Sandeep Pannu — in a press release issued on Friday.
The Jind SP said the case was registered under the Prevention of Atrocities Act and relevant sections related to sexual harassment. He added that the police acted proactively, met the victims, and initiated strict action. The statements of the victims will be recorded soon as part of the ongoing investigation, he added.
