After three-year gap, SPPU moves to recruit full-time deans in four vacant posts, ETEducation
Pune: The long-pending recruitment for dean positions in four major faculties of SPPU has finally moved forward, after these crucial posts remained vacant for nearly three years.
Now, the varsity administration has issued a fresh advertisement for the positions of faculty of dean and director, board of innovation, dean of research and dean of incubation.
Applications for the posts will be accepted from Thursday (Nov 13) for a month to follow.
These positions were advertised earlier in July 2023 as well. However, state govt had cancelled the process through a letter issued by the higher and technical education department dated Oct 15, 2024. The cancellation followed instructions from the state general administration department, which stated that reservation norms for these posts needed to be re-determined as per its earlier communication of Aug 17, 2022.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) was directed to cancel the recruitment process for the four posts accordingly. SPPU officiating registrar Jyoti Bhakare said, “With the reservation-related procedures now completed, the university has restarted recruitment. As per the new ad, applications for the faculty dean and director posts will be accepted until Dec 12.”
The university aims to initiate recruitment before the model code of conduct for local body elections comes into force. The administration believes the process will be finished on time, enabling the varsity to finally appoint dedicated full-time deans in all four posts.
Bhakare added, “The earlier recruitment had to be cancelled only because state govt revised reservation norms. With the revised framework now approved, we have acted promptly to restart the process. SPPU is committed to completing these appointments at the earliest so that academic functioning gains the necessary momentum.”
Former vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar retired in May 2022, and the dean posts have remained vacant since then. Faculties have taken temporary charge in the interim, but the lack of full-time deans slowed policy implementation and academic operations.
