
11 HBTU students expelled for involvement in brawl, ETEducation
Kanpur: The Harcourt Butler Technical University administration expelled 11 students from the mid-semester examinations of 2025-26 session and barred them from all institutional activities and positions following an alleged drunken brawl between third and fourth-year BTech students on Sep 19 near Gurudev Chauraha.
The altercation, which started after a group failed to greet the another group of students, soon escalated with use of abusive language and violence. Two students sustained head injuries in the clash. Security personnel arrived at the scene and controlled the situation.
Three students were expelled from hostel facilities for the entire session and all the expelled students were assigned 15 days of gardening work as punishment. The final decision awaits the inquiry committee’s report.
Dean student welfare professor A K Singh stated that seven third-year students—Parth Verma (Mechanical), Abhinandan Singh Sengar, Abhishek (Mechanical), Sudhanshu (Chemical), Nirbhay Singh (Oil Technology), Shashank Soni (Plastic), and Harsh Mishra (Chemical) and four fourth-year students—Shivam Singh (Chemical), Akhil Kumar Singh (Electronics), Suraj Kumar Sonkar (Chemical), and Dev Chaudhary (Electrical) were found guilty in the incident. Professor Singh emphasised that strict action will be taken against indiscipline and that there will be no fee refunds.
