Activity-based curriculum at CISCE schools from 2027-28, ETEducation
Bengaluru: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will introduce a revamped curriculum for kindergarten to class 8 from the 2027-28 academic year. The new curriculum promises to be “experiential, joyful, and activity-based”, and will be backed up by reforms in the assessment pattern as well, in consultation with academics.
“We are coming up with a new plan for kindergarten to class eight. This will be introduced along with the implementation of the National Education Policy and mapped with global skill sets and competition competencies,” Joseph Emmanuel, CISCE chairman, told TOI on the sidelines of the inter-school debating competition at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School here on Thursday. CISCE has also decided to set up a regional office in Bengaluru. “With Karnataka having around 400 CISCE schools, we will open a regional office here.”
Sharing further details about the revamped curriculum, Emmanuel said: “It will not be an entirely new concept, but an updated version of the existing one. It will have a lot of applications. Based on an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach, the new curriculum is aimed at equipping every child with skills that they can apply to real-life scenarios.”
According to Emmanuel, the syllabus will be aligned with National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), but the pattern of teaching will be different, aiming at holistic development of the learners.
CISCE will also ensure teachers are prepared to adapt and adopt an activity-based classroom, which is creative and joyful, he further said. The chairman said the council will also start a digital platform for students that can be used for various extracurricular activities. While artificial intelligence, data science, and robotics have already been rolled out, environmental science education will be added to that list soon.
