Lucknow: As many as 12 professors from Lucknow University (LU) are among several applicants from universities across state and country who have applied for the post of LU vice-chancellor, sources in Raj Bhawan said.
The Governor House had invited applications for the appointment to the post of VC and set the last date for application as Aug 11.
According to sources in Raj Bhawan, the highest number of applications received for the post is from professors of LU itself.
Of the 12 professors from LU, maximum are from the science faculty, particularly from LU’s physics department, where not one but four professors have applied for the post.
All the four from physics department have served in various administrative posts at LU and are also functionaries of other state universities. They have held positions such as LU’s internal quality assurance cell director, LU spokesperson, dean of student welfare, or as a hostel provost.
They have also played a role in preparing LU for getting an A++ grade in the National Accreditation Assessment Council, are visiting professors at international universities, and have won state and national level awards.
Another professor from the geology department was earlier shortlisted in the VC race of around a dozen state universities. Similarly, a statistics professor has also applied for the post. From the arts faculty, professors from Hindi, political science, economics and social work have also applied.
Of all applicants from the arts faculty, one from the political science department is apparently one of the strongest contenders, said LU sources. The social work professor, apart from his teaching experience, also plays a pivotal role as a National Cadet Corps officer and is among the applicants. Two professors from the economics department, known for giving international consultancies, books and research work, are also in the race.
