Andhra University, KL Universities lead AP in NIRF 2025; Others slip in rankings, ETEducation
Vijayawada: In the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 ratings released by the Central government on Thursday, only two educational institutions from Andhra Pradesh secured a spot in the prestigious Top 100 overall rankings. Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, emerged as the state leader, securing the 41st rank overall, while KL University, Vaddeswaram (Guntur district), followed closely with the 46th rank.In the Universities category, Andhra University continued its dominance by climbing to the 23rd rank, improving from its 25th position last year. KL University also performed strongly, taking the 26th spot.
However, not all institutions maintained their momentum. Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Guntur, which was ranked 59th in 2024, slipped drastically to the 84th position this year. Similarly, GITAM, Visakhapatnam, stood at 88th place, while Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Technology and Research, Guntur, secured the 70th rank.
In the Engineering category, KL University’s College of Engineering earned recognition by securing the 35th rank, while Vignan’s College of Engineering was placed at 80th. The management category saw a brighter spot for Andhra Pradesh, with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam securing an impressive 29th rank. However, no other management institutions from the state made it into the Top 100 list.
On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh fared poorly in the Medical Education category, as not a single college from the state managed to enter the Top 50 rankings.
Educationists believe that while Andhra University and KL University continue to bring national recognition to the state, other universities must work on research output, faculty development, and innovation to improve their standings in future NIRF evaluations.
