Lucknow: As many as nine higher educational institutes of Uttar Pradesh were ranked among the top 100 academic institutions in the country in the ‘overall category’ list of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which was released by the Union education ministry on Thursday.

IIT-Kanpur (rank 5) and Banaras Hindu University (rank 10) retained their positions from last year in the ‘overall category’, with marginal improvement in their scores. KGMU improved three steps from rank 88 to 85.

Five institutes from the state, comprising IIT-K, IIT-BHU, IIM Lucknow, BHU, and Aligarh Muslim University, figured in the top 5 and top 10 institutes of the country in different categories. IIT-K secured impressive rankings across categories: 4th in engineering, 5th overall, and 6th in research.

IIT-BHU bagged rank 10 in both the overall and engineering categories, while IIM Lucknow improved from rank 7 to 5 in the management category. BHU ranked 6th in the university category and 10th in the overall category. AMU secured rank 10 in the university category.

Not only this, but nine institutes also figured in the top higher education institutes in the university category. In the university category, BHU (rank 6), AMU (rank 10), Amity University, Gautam Budh Nagar (rank 22), BBAU (rank 37), KGMU (rank 50), Shiv Nadar University in Gautam Budh Nagar (rank 57), Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology (rank 68), Sharda University in Greater Noida (rank 87), and LU (rank 98) were listed.

As many as 11 management institutes from the state are in the list of top 100 in the country, with IIM Lucknow on the top, improving its rank from 7 to 5.
